Two Virginia Beach Police Officers Fatally Shot After a Late-Night Traffic Stop – Details

A traffic stop in Virginia Beach ended in tragedy late Friday night, claiming the lives of two police officers.

On February 21, 2025, at 11:27 p.m., Officers Cameron Girvin and Christopher Reese stopped a Hyundai Sonata for an expired license plate. The driver initially refused to pull over but stopped at a dead end. When approached, he became argumentative and resisted commands.

After stepping out, a struggle ensued, and the driver pulled a handgun, shooting both officers. As they lay defenseless, he fired again, fatally wounding them before fleeing. Backup arrived quickly and launched a search. The suspect was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a nearby shed.
