Amalie Jennings, a 30-year-old woman whose story touched hearts worldwide, learned early in life how harsh the world could be. Struggling with issues like self-image, bullying, and feeling like an outsider due to her weight, her life was filled with challenges. Yet, Amalie’s journey became one of love, acceptance, and resilience.
Her struggles began in childhood. In a 2019 interview, she shared, “I have always been fat since I was two years old.” As Amalie gained weight rapidly, her mother sought medical advice, but the challenges she faced went far beyond physical health. From kindergarten onwards, Amalie endured relentless bullying. She recalled, “My oldest memory of bullying is in kindergarten when I was around four. All the kids picked on me for being fat.”
As Amalie grew, the bullying only worsened. She struggled with a negative self-image and turned to self-harm. Shopping for clothes became a painful reminder of her isolation; even as a child, she had to shop in the women’s section because children’s clothes didn’t fit her. These experiences left her feeling disconnected and unseen, in a world where people like her were rarely represented.
