At the time of the incident, Head was alone and without his phone. He managed to reach a main road where he flagged down a passing motorist for assistance. Emergency services were contacted, and he was subsequently airlifted to a hospital in Tyler, Texas.

PeopleMedical evaluations revealed that the bullet had lodged into his abdominal wall, missing all vital organs. Doctors determined that surgery was unnecessary and decided to leave the bullet in place. His wife, Misty, provided updates on his condition, expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support and noting that his larger physique may have contributed to the bullet missing critical areas.
